I'm new to this. Can the front Bumper for the JK be mounted without using a winch? I am looking for a brush guard, but have no use for a winch.

I'm not exactly the guy to answer this, but I'll give it a shot.

The bumper was never designed to be run without a crossmember up front. The winch mount does this very effectively. We looked into making a mini-crossmember, but it would have been 75% of what the winch mount is, without having the obvious advantage of being able to add a winch later.

So, Yes. It is possible to use it without a winch, but not without the winch mount.

We have a cover plate designed to cover up the hole not having a winch would leave. But, we haven't had any demand for it so none have been made. Iirc, the top cover plate is just a flat piece of steel.

My personal recommendation is that even if you don't feel like a winch now doesn't mean you won't want one at some point. Even if its not a top of the line Warn Ultra 13000XDiT Mosfet Edition (don't google that), having a winch is rarely a bad thing.

Also by having a winch mount will be benificial in the long run. You never know what you may want down the road. By having the ability to run the winch down the road it will save money down the road, and give you flexibility.

I have theAEV complete bumper (including mount) without a winch . I do not plan on getting a winch for now. Do you sell the cover plate & how do I get it? I do not see it listed on your product page.

Thanks

I was watching a TV show where a jeep with an after market bumber was coming down a hill and at the bottom the angle was to steep to clear the bumper. The bumper ripped into the dirt and came out fine, no dents or bending. I was wondering if the AEV stamped bumper could take that same kind of abuse? More specifically would it bend at the ends?

I think it would be okay even if it dug into the ground a bit. With it being stamped you can run a thinner metal and still be stronger than a bumper that is not stamped and running a thicker steel bumper

We'll have the top plates sometime soon. I'll try to get an eta. The top plate is just a flat pc of metal with the correct holes and coating. Its nothing too special.

Dave,
Same here, I have an AEV front bumper on order from OK Auto & 4wd and do not see running a winch for some time down the road. If I understand it you are going to make a top plate, but what about the front ?

Is their any updates on the AEV rear bumper for the JK ?

The front normally gets a license plate over the hole so we haven't done anything with that.

Rear bumper is coming along through the process.

Boots, OK Auto installed my AEV front bumper and mounted my plate there with no problem

So, I finally got around to getting all the work done on my JK and I too will not be running a winch (at least for now) is there now a cover plate or is everyone just mounting their license plate bare right over where the fairlead would normally come out the front?

Most are running the license plate with nothing behind it.

Front looking at a bunch of photos and reading your production description, I couldn't find anywhere it stating whether or not a High Lift Jack could be used on the AEV Front Bumper. Are there any jacking points built into the AEV Front Bumper?

Thank you.
David

There are two high lift jacking points on the front. If you look at the picture of the skid for the front, you will see them.

This is the best picture I could find where you can see the locations. http://www.aev-conversions.com/gallery/albums/AEV_JK_Parts/DSC_3594_d.jpg

Thanks JeepinJon

I had seen the cut outs in the skid plate and was curious if that was the jacking point. Thanks for the picture with the explanation too.

I wonder if the rear bumper will have cutouts too.
