I understand AEV is debuting a revised JK front bumper at SEMA this week. Anyone with early pics, please post! Thanks.

I hope they dont revise it to much as I pretty much love it the way it is.I am really curious as to why the went from a one piece mesh to a three piece.

I believe one change is going to be the removal of the factory fog light holes, which I think is a good move. Those lights are virtually worthless and if your jeep was not equipped with them originally it saves the hassle of having to buy and install lights that aren't that great anyway.

I hope they lower the price, get rid of the crush can dealies, get standard shackle mounts, lower the bumper on top to ease removal of grill to change a headlight bulb, and make a non winch version.. if they do these things, Ill order one tomorrow.

From what I heard, it will come with a telescopic shower head that you can connect to the AEV rear bumper water tanks. Useful for those hot summer days. ;)

Do you actually have the fog lights on the AEV bumper? I do, and they help a lot, I drive on a very dark winding road on my way back from work, and I am thankful I have them as they make a huge difference.
cheers.

Dave posted up earlier about the changes to the front bumper and all they were for was to make it easier to install (less time consuming) and also so that the winch plate wasn't needed for people not wanting to run a winch. I would think this may make the non-winch version a bit cheaper, but it isn't anything too drastic. ;)

Funny. I tell you, that bumper's gotta be tough to handle all the pre-release flak it's gotten.

Admittedly, I've never had the factory fogs on my jeep, so my comments were maybe a little uninformed. I've replaced the factory headlights (which I did have ;) with Cibie lamps and H4 bulbs, which has made a dramatic difference and I can all but gaurantee would make the factory fogs "disappear". My fog light comments and decision to replace the factory headlights stemmed from consultation with Daniel Stern Lighting (http://www.danielsternlighting.com/). He can really help out with any lighting questions you might have. Cheers!

On the trails the fog lights can come in quite handy where you are only looking 20-50 feet ahead without blinding everyone else like headlights would. On the highway though I never turn my figs on unless I am in fog.
I really like the solution from Daniel Stern, but I am waiting for the ARB solution coming out in a few weeks. I know that AEV has used the ARB (IPF) lights extensively on the TJ so I am sure that if it is up to their standards it will be up to ours and for less money and work than the Sterns.

according to the Daniel Stern, he was not impressed with the quality of the IPF lights and reflectors. Putting them only slightly above the Hella. CIBE came out way on top for quality of light output. I would be dissapointed if they got rid of the fog light holes. I think they add alot. and you don't have to put a mopar fog light in there. you can fab up something to hang a quality 4" light. Well either way I have my AEV bumper and plan on upgradeing the fogs soon after the headlights.

photos of the bumper are up at jk-forum. fogs are gone and in the photos there are not any cruch cans...
I like the missing crush cans, but I will not buy the bumper without fog cutouts.. I hope the original will be available in the future

I read the new bumper will exist along side the original as an "entry level" piece, giving folks an option. Even though I started this thread, after seeing it and evaluating the options, I think I prefer the original also. I'll just likely not utilize the factory lights and find some others.

I don't think so. It looks like they are cutting costs and sacrificing aesthetics. Jdemonto's link has pics of the new bumpers, and you can see the smaller openings around the grille. It probably would have looked better with the two sides' openings deleted rather than shrunk down.

They ARE cutting costs, that's what makes it an ENTRY-LEVEL bumper. The other bumper still exists.

The two new bumpers are at the show, one is entry, but the one on the JK is not.

Really for the intended use of expedition or just for all around four wheeling i dont see why you wouldnt want a winch.

Guys, the "standard" bumper is actually the military version of the AEV bumper. You can add everything to it with the exception of the foglamps and crush cans (which the military J8 does not require)
It just ended up that we could offer it to civilians with a cost savings so we will.

Thanks Dave. Regarding this bumper then, what's your opinion on it for street use? I understand the crush cans purpose is to absorb the shock of minor front end impacts to avoid deploying the air bag. Did you do any tests to determine what kind of an impact would deploy the bags without crush cans? I was also wondering if the effectiveness of the crush cans on the "original" AEV bumper is diminished since the roller fairleads (if installed) would seem to inhibited at least half of the crush cans' travel. Thanks for fine products and great support on your forum.

It has been my experience that any aftermarket steel front bumper will have to take quite a whollup to deploy bags. I can't see the cans making that much of a difference in that regard. I could be wrong. My experience is with TJ's and trees/rocks.
The cans would probably offer more protection to the offending vehicle (in low, low speed collisions) than your JK?
Don't ask me how I know this.... whistling...
