Just in case you guys haven't seen it yet, we've now got the JK Jack bases in stock. Its basically a nice pc that gives your stock jack about 3.5" of height. Hopefully no one here has found out the hard way that the stock jack won't work with even a mildly lifted JK. The product is designed to fit into the rear cubby of the JK when you're not using it.

That's a very nice addition to the JK, especially for those who don't have a Hi-Lift Jack.

Is this a hint that the rear bumper may not have a Hi-Lift jack mount?

I know for a fact that the AEV JK Tire Carrier will have a place for a farm jack.

The real question is have any of you ever tried to actually change a tire with a farm jack? Its a scary proposition at best, they are great for some things, but changing tires on a vehicle with lots of wheel travel is not one of them.

Just figured I'd post it before Dave:) I know the whole "gotta have a farm jack" thing frustrates him since most people don't know when to use them or how to use them properly and safely.

That is a great idea. It seems like it would b emuch more stable to use this on a JK compared to a Highlift since you can actually get under the JK with this jack.

Thanks for the information Matt.

Yeah what Matt said!

No kidding around. Please use Highlift (farm jacks) carefully and don't try to change a tire with one unless its absolutely the only way. With the amount of wheel travel these Jeeps have, you need to just about max out a Highlift to get the tire off the ground which creates for a very unstable vehicle.

The Jack base is a neat little part, its definitely easier to clean than a block of wood and won't hold water and later cause funky smells or split on you at the most inopportune of times.

That's funny what Dave mentioned about the wood smelling and rotting, since I've been there also. And the thing with the Hi-Lift Jack is very serious stuff. I rolled a bead off in this really muddy, rutty section of a trail, and to get the tire up high enough, my Hi-Lift jack was almost maxed out and I only had 33" tires. I bought one of the Hi-Lift bases and that helped stabilize it a bit, but it still was a bit scary when it was up in the air like that. The good thing was I used my AEV rock sliders to lift the side of the Jeep up! :)

That new AEV Base will be included with my Jeep! Good work guys!

AEV crew,

Great idea. Great execution too!

Hi lift stuff,

The best thing you can have along to use with a high lift jack when changing a tire is a section of chain, or a custom strap to tie the axle to the frame. It prevents the axle from drooping down when you lift from the bumper or rocker panel. This makes thing a lot safer when using a hi-lift because you don't have to jack up nearly as high.

Another good trick is to add a neoprene or foam sleeve around the hi-lift jack handle. This keeps the handle a little less dangerous and will not only soften a blow from the handle if a pin fails to set, but also add some grip to the handle if done right.

A slightly longer handle is really nice to have if your a smaller person. It adds some mechanical advantage that lets you work the jack without having to jump on it.

Always work from below the jack handle if possible. This way if you loose your grip and a pin doesn't set the jack handle won't catch you between the jack.

If the ground is icy or rocky and the base keeps slipping out take off the jack base to let the bottom of the jack dig in, or try and dig a small hole for the base to keep the jack from shifting.

Add a section of foam pipe insulation to your kit. You can use it between jack and the nice clean paint on your jeep to prevent scratches. Try not to pull/push the jack away from the vehicle bodywork. Having your fingers between the jack and the body isn't a good thing.

Use gloves always

Have fun, practice, and be safe!

Hey AEV Dave,
Will this Jack Base work with a 4.5" lift and 37" tires ? Hate to spend $50 and find out the Base is still not enough to lift the JK for a tire change.
This Jack Base looks like a good deal, and I like how it fits in the back storage area out of the way.

Yep. The amount of lift doesn't matter since your lifting under the axle tube. There isn't a whole lot of room under a 37, but it works fine. I haven't tried any larger since we don't have any JK around with bigger than BFG 37s. I should probably try a set of swampers at some point soon, as they tend to run about an inch bigger than most.
