Does anyone have the rear tire carrier for the WK and/or any pics of it?

I see that, but a couple people I've 'known' for a couple years now have tried to contact AEV to purchase products for their WKs and they had no luck. however, that was over half a year ago. Maybe they do have those available.

I have seen the aev carrier once about 2 years ago. I still looking for a rear bumper/carrier for my jeep. Can not find anyone in Australia or U.S to build one yet. Until now from South Africa by Nomad 4x4.

I've been talking with Kent about ording a AEV built WK and I have been told that the rear tire carrier is not in production and that they cannot not commit to a date when it will be. Kent is supposed to be looking into whether or not the oversized spare will fit deflated in the existing spare well underneath. He asked if I could wait until he got back from Moab.

Personally, I think this is a huge oversight and has caused me to reconsider the purchase of a built rig as I do not want a spare inside the vheicle. This issue also applies to the hidden winch front bumper and they specified an ARB bumper to me instead. While I like the ARB, I do not want that weight on my vehicle so that to is not an option and again, has caused me to reconsider a built WK.

I understand that the JK is their bread and butter and those parts come first for development but atthe very least, if its going to be on the website, there should be some progress being made on making those parts available.

I know that there is an attachment that can go into a 2" receiver hitch and hold an oversized spare tire. I know that on the Commander that I saw from AEV it was in an overhead roof rack.

If I remember right I think that they were working on making the JK bumper items so they could be compatible with the WK bumper as much as possible. I am assuming this will pretty much be the swing arm, so all that they should still have left is the actual bumper as long as they were able to stick with the original idea.

Would storing a deflated tire damage it at all?

The limiting factor of spare tire size in the stock location is the rear crossmember. If you relocate the center portion of this crossmember rearward about 2 inches, you can fit an inflated 33" tire - something that AEV certainly should be able to do. It does mess with your departure angle a bit.

Here are a few pics (project is currently in-progress, no final pics yet)

We're definitely in the category of too much to do in too little time. Truly sorry if this stuff has caused anyone problems. We didn't want to release the winch mount till we were done looking at airbag issues and the Tire carrier becoming a reality has a lot to do with our JK tire carrier because the thought is that it will share a lot of components to make a the low volume WK carrier make sense from a business standpoint. The JK has taken longer than anticipated so....

would carrying an aired up spare in a roof top basket mounted to factory load bars work in the mean time or are the factory load bars too weak?

I think you would be just fine. In June of 2006 I drove a Commander that they had installed their Selway roof rack onto and they had a full size 34" tire on the spare up there, and it held just fine.

There are a few members on Jeeps Unlimited who carry a 33" spare on a rack up top their WK's with no problems.

thanks for the input guys - i wouldn't do it for everyday driving but hitting the beaches and wheeling you obviously need it
