I have a highline; the flares are showing signs of fading on the top, much like old TJ flares. Should I treat them with a special cleaner or just spray paint them? What type products would folks recommend?

I'm not sure, but I think Mothers has a product that restores black plastic.

There are also a few products available through quadratec.

Easier to restore the flares than having to go through the process of painting them.

I unfortunately had an inconsiderate *insert-vulgarity-here* scratch mine beyond belief when they decided to rest their rear door against my flare and then waddle their fat *another vulgarity here* into their SUV. End result: Lots of up / down scratches on my rear passenger side. The flares were 2 days old.
In addition, they don't seem to be coping well to whatever chemical the car washes here use to shine things up, so I've stopped them from putting anything on them.
After the summer I'll probably look at spraying them with Krylon Fusion or something...
However if the team at AEV has some care tips I'd love to hear them :)

I was told by the body shop that did my Highline install that the finish on these fender flares scratched and dulled easily. They told me the best remedy for this is to use a heat gun over the blemishes on any hard plastic and that it should return it to a nice black finish.

Any updates? The flares are fading much faster then i expected, just a little over a year since install.I also wonder if it would be possible to paint them black and have it look like it should.Ive also considered body color.

The flares are polypropylene which is relatively good when it comes to UV resistence, but as with ALL plastics, they will fade over time. We use some professional detailing supplies, but there are several products that will make them apeare black again without painting them. You CAN paint PP, but I haven't tried it myself yet. It might end up worse than just putting the occasional plastic restorer stuff on them.

Mine got to faded for a restore product and I park in a garage... I sprayed with a body plastic trim paint and it soaked in really well... first pressure wash it started to peel... I touched them up and have to come up with a new plan...
