There are company's who actually make kits for this. It is comonly refered to as a 609 axle. I know that there was an episode on Xtreme 4x4 where they built a 609 with a kit from someone, but I can't remember who. I think it was from spydertrax, or twisted customs. From what I have seen it is no more difficult than building any other type of axle.

Its pretty common these days....
A few things to watch out for on the TJ platform are.....
-The D60 knuckle is generally wider than the D44 or D30 stuff. With the stock lower coil mounts the axle can only be made so narrow. I can't remember for sure but I think this is about 63-63.5" wide WMS-WMS. This would be a few inches wider than the stock axle.
-The 9" center section is larger than the the D44 by a bit. This can lead to complications with front track-bar clearance.
-The stock 9" is a low pinion design that could lead to some pretty steep drive line angles in front. There are high pinion options however. I like the True Hi9 differential over the Currie unit.
-Spidertrax has a pretty neat system coming out. I don't think you can buy a bolt in axle quite yet, but most of the parts are there. There D60 knuckle is much more compact than the stock D60 knuckles. This may allow you to have the stock axle width.
Best of luck with your project.
