Dave, Jordan, AEV other...Interior swap help.

I'm still contemplating converting my '03, but if I change the exterior color, I want to go with black interior. What was the first year for black interiors...and how far back can I swap interior parts with the newer black parts. Think they will swap out on a '99 model?

I have a 2000 wrangler and painted the the interior trim pieces a sandstone color. They were originally the Agate color. I used Krylon Fusion and it came out alright, but i should have spent more time prepping the parts. I looked at changing out the Entire interior to the charcoal. The dash is the same from 1997-2002 with different sub frame from 2003-2006. I believe the Black color you are looking at started in 2003. I have the center bezel from an 03 and it fits my 2000 dash. So far no issues interchanging the pieces. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure 99 was the first year for agate. You can do it two ways, buy all the parts (new or used). Or paint them, we've had good luck with automotive paints (anything thats catalyzed).

If I remember correctly (which doesn't mean much) the interior changes were

97-98
99-02
03-06 (Not 100% certain that agate/gray changed here)

The agate/black/dark gray were never changed as much as the tan/khakis were. They are different but any of them would do what you needed.

Like Dave said, a good automotive paint will also work fine.

Another option is to do what I did and change the color to something that still works with a tan interior :)

In the scheme of things...the cost of changing interior colors probably wouldn't be too cost prohibitive....considering what money is being spent already. It would be nice, however, to start with the right color to begin with...as Jordan mentioned....or find a color that works with the current interior. I have my color picked out, but my Khaki '03 isn't going to get it. The Tan from 2000 would work, but the true black seems to be my choice. I'm going to get interior parts pricing sometime this week and I'll share it with ya' in here.
