I have had the superlift 4 inch installed for about 6 months - and I finally got the EGR module because I got tired of having the ESP engage even when it was turned off. A week later I got the 'check elec brake system' and my brakes engaged with the same ESP like behavior whenever I turned sharply at low speed. I removed the EGR module, disconnected battery, etc - but nothing changed - still braking, still message to check elec brake system.

Dealer said I need a new clockspring. I just thought it was pretty weird that this happened within a week of putting the EGR in and wanted to make sure there is no way that the clockspring failure could be related because it is costing me $900 to get it replaced - so I obviously don't want to reinstall the module if there is any chance it will cause a newly installed clockspring to fail. 2005 GC limited 5.7liter. Hoping to get some reassurance that I won't get another $900.00 bill in a couple weeks if I put the module back in.

Also - if it is safe - should I do the programming step again or can I just put it back in?

Did you change your tire size or gear ratio?
Having a different tire size or gear ratio, from stock, confuses the computer.
It may be as simple as reprogramming/resetting your computer.

I left the gear ratio at factory because from what I read for my engine it didn't need it changed. I did turn on the side mirror adjust but didn't see that work when in reverse.

I did hear the horn beep when I programmed it - and it definitely seemed to be working the week before I had the clockspring issue - some corners I had ESP engage every time didn't have it engage anymore once the module was in. It worked great for a week - then the clockspring went out. Not sure if there could be any relation at all but because it is so expensive, don't want to put the EGR back in if there is any way it caused the failure.

I can without uncertainly tell you the EGR can do nothing to break the clock-spring.

Was it the actual ribbon / spring that broke? (Horn and cruise stop working) or was that part fine but the SCM Module not working? (The SCM module is part of the clockspring which is why they are expensive).

Last I saw the module was $400 and I would guess it's couldn't be more than a 2hr job, so I feel like the total you were charged is a little high.

Let me know what happens, but I'm certain that your EGR can not cause permanent damage to the clock-spring.

What has happened since?

I haven't yet put the module back in yet - but with your email I am planning to in the near future. I'll let you know how it goes.
