I was saving this for later as I was told by Chrysler, it would debut at the LA Auto Show, but Jeep jumped the gun this morning with a Facebook and You Tube spot, calling the COD MW3 Edition Wrangler, the "Toughest Vehicle in the World".
The Jeep features AEV bumpers front and rear, an AEV Heat Reduction Hood , all as factory certified and warranted parts. No word yet on pricing or the number of units, but most Special Edition Wranglers have been limited to runs of 5,000.
This is a huge breakthrough for aftermarket companies as AEV becomes one of the very first Tier 2 suppliers to break through into Tier 1 status and have their parts, not only officially sanctioned by Jeep but become Jeep parts, installed upon the assembly line at Toledo. These parts were extensively tested, abused and re-tested in a series of 6 bumper tests for Jeep and DOT certification.
A big tip of the hat to AEV!

Thanks for the tip. I take it is not lifted but stands as high as a regular Rubicon.

Thanks Norm, I doubt anyone realizes how much work goes into getting even a different bolt onto the assembly line much less an entire aftermarket part. There were about a bazillion miniscule changes that needed to be made and as you mentioned 6 wranglers had to sacrifice themselves for this program to happen. However, now the bumper is the only aftermarket bumper in the world that has been crash tested and approved.
One side benefit to enthusiasts is that all the holes for the AEV bumper are now in the frame on ALL wranglers, so what used to be a time intensive install that required drilling has been reduced to hardly anything :)

Several of my friends are Jeep Engineers and the effort to get the smallest of changes approved is amazing.
Thanks for taking the time to go over these details with me at the show, I know that you, Chris and Kent were very busy and your time was appreciated.

That is one nice looking Jeep. I see they using the side vents on the hood now.

Can AEV discuss why certain things went and some didn't. Why did they not do the side vents in the hood?
I saw some where that it's possible to get a 2 inch lift and 35 inch tires as an option. Is that true?
I wish this known as the AEV edition or trail edition something other then a video game tie in.

AEV can talk to the reasons there are certain features missing, probably DOT/Crash/Cost.
As for the Jeep Options, yes, the lift is a dealer installed option, as is the winch. Tires I'm not sure about, but any dealer that now installs 35's would most likely offer that option only with the 2" lift. Stock the MW3 comes with the Rubicon, 32" tires.
As for the video tie in, COD MW3 racked up 1.5 million Facebook fans in a very short time frame, so this appears to be a sales winner right out of the box. Jeep plans on only 3500 units, so don't hesitate, they may all be sold by the weekend.

MSRP of the JKU is $40,070. Dealers can then add tires, lift, winch, etc. So prices will vary depending upon options.
Still a very affordable price for an AEV Rubicon, that is factory supported.
Most likely they will all be sold within days, or even hours.

I'm sure it's less delivery, special stereo/nav and remote start etc.
I've seen some of the window stickers on line and the way these things are coming is all over the board.
Basically it's a $6500 package, then go from there.

Well I don't want to be naive at 30 + years in the business , but at 40K+ I doubt 3500 units of any motor vehicle will be sold within hours --------BUT I've been wrong before !!
I'm also wondering if that front bumper will be available through Chrysler as I kind of also like it without the front bar .

The Islander and Mountain Special Editions were only decal packages and both at 5,000 units, sold out in less than 8 hours. So, I'm speculating that the Special Edition COD MW3 Rubicon may, hopefully do as well, after all, 3500 is barely enough to cover 1 per dealer.
It would speak well for the aftermarket and for "real" Jeeps if it did sell quickly, as it would justify Jeep building more capable vehicles and not more cross-over decal packages.
If I recall correctly, Dave said there would be a possibility of the COD bumper going public, after commitments to Jeep were met.

Hello all, I just bought mine last week. For the money I think it should have come with a X-box and a copy of the game but I love it. I did remove as many of the logos as I could. Saves a lot of questions and looks cleaner. Some questions I have: Can I buy the hood vents, spare tire holder and water pump/tanks and add them to what I have? I plan on going all AEV with it if possible. Also, I'd be interested in the new seat covers if they also made headrest covers. I need to cover up more logos, lol! I also want that new 2.5" lift, 35'' tires and a set of the black 5-hole wheels. Oh, and a Warn winch.

So, the 2012 jkur I just ordered will require no modifications to bolt on the premium bumper?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
That would appear to be what he said, ;)
Now remember, if you buy a COD Wrangler, sans winch, you still need to remove the bumper and install a mounting plate, first.
My question for AEV, any guesstimate on the individual sale of the "hoopless" bumper?
I love the AEV bumper, but dislike "hoops", the COD MW3 bumper is perfect.

I decided NOT do go with the COD: MW3 and ordered a 2012 JKUR. I plan on getting the "Euro Front Bumper" and just wanted to know if it'll bolt right up now without any modifications.

I had the dealer install the 3.5" lift and 35" BFG MTs on mine. 500 miles so far and I love it. I wanted the tire carrier but was told it was not yet available for the 2012 model year.

I'm not AEV but I don't think this is true, There's a bunch of people running the tire carrier and bumper on the back of their 2012. It's probably more like "Not available through Chrysler." When I saw the COD edition not coming through with them I figured it might be something like rear visibilty concerns or crash test worthiness. I think because it will be delivered on the "new vehicle" it may have to meet different requirements, hence why AEV was so concerned with the crush cans on the front of the bumpers for the air bag deployment. This is just my guess though.
BTW... love you COD!! I would have gone with one of those but the dealer only had an auto, no stick :( and since I was going to tear most of the gear out while building mine I figured it might be best to go with the Arctic.

He is just stating that the COD version from Jeep didn't have the tire carrier on it from the factory. All the other AEV rigs we see are conversions, they came from Jeep as a normal "whatever" and were converted to AEV. This is not the case with the COD version, it was made this way before it ever set for on the dealer lot. So the question, "why does the COD version not have the carrier?" Should be asked either to a Jeep representative who actual knows (good luck) or AEV................ Not a salesman.

Here's a couple pics of my COD with the rear tire carrier installed. There's also a 3rd brake light (LED) peeking through the top hole of the Savegre wheel. Note that they had to replace the factory plastic part on the right of the bumper with the one that has the hole for the tire carrier to pass through. This is also a water reservoir as you probably know so they replaced the left side with the water reservoir with the cap. Now I'll need the connecting hose and the pump if I want to use it I guess.

Looks great. I plan on adding all the same parts to mine that you went with except I want to use BFG MT still. Do you have a side shot? That lift looks just like I was hoping it would. Perfect for my needs.

Stupid question are the MW3 parts (hood, bumper etc)any different from those if purchased seperatly from other vendors?
mikewheels

No vents in the hood, no holes in rear bumper for tire carrier and water pump, no winch plate or grille guard on front bumper. That's on parts that came on my COD package. I've seen parts from other vendors being offered that include those details. I'm going to have to spend about a grand to add that to mine.:(

Great looking COD's.
Here is mine, it has been a blast putting it together.
I had a 2" lift w/ FOX Shox put on and I switched out the tubeless bumper to the tubed version.
Warn 9.5 cti-s and PIAA 520 ATP's up front.
Drake grille inserts and holdowns work nice. Stubby antenna and lockpick w/ rear camera as well.
I de-badged it except for the JEEP letters on the grille.
Going to get the front windows tinted and some bigger tires soon.
Next stop, the Badlands in Indiana...

Nice Silver one. I'm interested in the rear camera you mention since my larger DuraTrac on the rear tire carrier pretty much eliminates anything out the rear view mirror and I'm a habitual mirror watcher. What brand camera and monitor? Does yours use a seperate screen, does it tie in to the factory NAV screen or did you get one that shows on a rear view mirror? I was going to get one that shows on a rear view mirror unless I could tie it in to the Garmin NAV. And I was going to wire it to be on all the time; not just for backup. What is "Lockpick"?
were you guys able to get a deal? all the local dealers are holding firm to MSRP.

Checkout Coastaltech for the Lockpick. You can buy direct or on e-bay. It allows you to "unlock" the factory settings and play DVD's and input into the Nav while driving. It also allows for at least 4 camera's.
The basic setup is the rear camera engages when put into reverse, the front engages when under 8 mph and the side camera's engage when you operate the turn signals. You can also set it up to watch children in the back seats.
It uses the stock screen and you can override it whenever you want to whatever camera you want as well. They sell 2 different camera's but you can buy elsewhere if you want a specific camera brand.
I have the license plate night vision camera that lets you know basically how close you are to what you are backing up into. If I were you, set it up on the spare with a different camera so the field of vision isn't toward the left side. I am going to put a washer in mine on one side to push it out to turn it a bit and see how that goes. Someone mentioned that helped on another forum...
Do you have the 430N or 730N NAV system?
I bet some other members here may know even more and can chime in.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info; I did go to Car Toys yesterday and discuss with them (and ended up ordering!). They ordered a kit from NavTV (probably similar to Lockpick) which will allow the Alpine rear view camera that I bought to show on the 430N NAV screen that I have. We too debated about the camera placement and decided to mount it right on top of of the High 3rd light (AEV CHMSL) using the same bracket. So will be looking out through the top hole of the Savegre spare wheel. Can see the light in pic attached. Might see a bit of the tire to either side in the wide view but will be a straight-on rear view as opposed to license plate. I am wanting mostly for drive-time rear viewing as well as back-up so will wire it to be on when ignition is on with a rocker switch to display the camera view on the screen when desired. When it's installed I'll post a couple close-up pics.

I did ask if I could have the one camera wired both ways; wire to be on full time with selective viewing for basic rear view look when wanted and wired for auto view on screen when in reverse. First answer was one or the other but I think I'll ask again.

If your camera is wired for auto view, it should not be that hard to have a manual switch added for selective viewing as well.
It might be hard for them to figure it out, but it's not that hard to wire. ;)
There are several existing cameras that do both, so it is possible.
