View Full Version : Highline Rocker Guards

I'm planning on getting the Highline kit this summer, but I noticed AEV doesn't have Highline specific rocker guards on this website, am I missing something? I have put off buying rockers knowing they won't work with the Highline fenders without hacking them up.
Did AEV offer these in the past? If so, why not anymore? And if not, what does a guy have to do to get some that will work with the Highline?
Thanks

I know that on the body mounted rockers they need to have some trimming done to the front and back to make them fit, and then refinished.

First, I just realized I accedentally posted this in the wrong section, sorry.
That is what I want, the on body rockers, ones with the tubing slider/step. Every company that makes them has the tubing going full length down the guard, making it hard to modify to fit with the Highline. The only way being cutting a middle section out and rewelding back together, which I would like to avoid.

We don't have one, but as mentioned the Rubicon ones can be cut down and Kilby makes a really nice set for the Highline.

Alright, thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to look into getting a set without the sliders and add my own, I just need to find someone who can bend tubing. Does anyone know where I can find someone in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area?

There are a few 4x4 shops in the area such as Baders B&K 4x4 in Spokane and most body shops should be able to assist. Otherwise I AEV has been very pleasant to work with in the past from my experience, and they are only a two to two and a half hour drive from that area.

Yeah, I'm over in Missoula a few times a year, I've got family over there and have stopped by AEV a couple times to say hi, have yet to meet Dave yet though, I'd really like to!
To anyone at AEV, I know you guys are always busy, but would you be willing to make a custom set for me? And if so, how much would you charge? I really like your guys original design, the one ARB apparently bought from you. And why did you guys stop making them anyway? You'd think everyone who bought a highline conversion would want some rockers as well?

Right now we don't have any extra time, but I know of several people who could help you out on this side of the mountains.
We stopped selling the guards for a number of reasons, it just worked out with ARB to continue because they were the manufacturer at the time anyways.

Alright, I mostly need someone who can bend tubing, but I think I found someone who will help me. If not, when I order my highline kit I'll see about getting those names from you.
Thanks Dave.

Hey Dave,
Would the original AEV rocker guards tubing fit between the flares on a Highline SWB?
I don't mind cutting the ends off and recoating the ARB ones but if the tubing needs modification I expect it gets more difficult.

Yeah, those look decent I guess. How good of a step would they provide in the mud and snow though? With that smooth flat surface, the mud and snow has no where to go and would make for a slippery step.

I would run a layer of grip tape on there r bedline the rocker, and that should fix the issue.

Yeah, I thought of that too, but it's still kinda iffy. A buddy of mine has line-x'ed PSC guards with the tube rail, works great as a step in the summer, but is a broken leg waiting to happen in the winter, even though it's got line-x.
Honestly I'd prefer just flat side guards, without the step, like AEV's brute ones, but my girlfriend is kinda short and has a little trouble getting into my stock jeep, I couldn't imagine her getting in it once it's on 37's without a step.
I couldn't see stepping on the rocker to get into my jeep. I guess my jeep isn't tall enough yet :p But for your gfriend, Hanson has some great looking rockers that have a pretty aggressive "step" built into them. I don't have a picture but I'm sure its on their website.

Yeah, I looked at the Hanson's as well and came up with the same mud and snow issue as the Kilby's. I guess this is a win-lose situation where I can't be too picky. Overall I like the tube style the best, but with a larger diameter tube than the PSC ones, they don't provide much.
At least with the tube style, snow and ice doesn't build up on it.

Sorry if I can't relate too much, the most we get is sand and rain, doesn't tend to "build up".:D

Yeah, I live in eastern washington, a third the year here is snow and ice, I both drive to work and back, and play in it, so it's a big concern. I've seen way to many almost broken bones, and faces, getting in and out of jeeps to not be prepared!

The Highline is such a unique product and rocker gaurds are such a common mod that AEV needs to produce these.I ended up going with stock Rubicon gaurds because i needed to get somethin g in a hurry.

They used to, you can buy their design from ARB, but they will still require modification to work with the highline kit.

Here is a way to install the ARB rock sliders with an AEV highline kit. I chose to trim the AEV fenders flares in order to get the maximum stiffness against tears:

You could try Kilby Enterprises, they had a set that fit with no mods and they were really nice. I heard a rumor they might have gone out of business, but I'm not sure.

Kilby is still going. Not sure what their plans are for the future, but I'll be picking up new sliders for my LJ that's getting highlined now. The sliders for highlined TJs aren't in stock now, as far as I know, but they're very friendly and helpful. I'd bet they'd make a set for anyone who wanted to order them.
