Why not offer the j8 frame, choice of engine, axels and other under hood products as a kit. This way the jk owners can simply put their jk bodies on the j8 and have best of both worlds with less cost. A lot of us have our jeeps paid for and like the interiors but want the heavier duty frame and drive train.

to my understanding. the body is also stronger on the J8 with reinforcements.

but still a very good idea

Well to have an engine upgrade, bullet proof driveline, able to tow 7000-8000 lbs. It would be like having a 1/2 ton pickup in a jeep body.

My 09 jeep rubi nada value is 24k,26k I could refinance it to pay for this type of kit. It would make since with a used power train to have this done for around 20k, 25k.

What does AEV say about this?

What is the tow rating on those frames?

And even if you did it, you still wouldn't have any way to get a new door sticker that says you're LEGAL for that kind of weight, even if it's "safe." Therefore you're playing with fire...you probably wouldn't get caught just for doing it, but if you were in a wreck, you'd have serious liability issues and then legal costs to try to "prove" you were safe. And at the end of the day, if it wasn't crash tested here, you lose.

People try to do this with Japanese (and other country) cars all of time time.

-they import the chassis in one container and the body in another...somehow the two make it to each other and it gets titled as a kit car. The government is quick to jump on this after the person spends the thousands on taxes, tariffs, brokerage, customs, and then a few months later the govt tracks them down and the vehicle gets crushed. You can find hundreds of these horror stories all over the internet.

It angers me that our oppressive federal government prevents Chrysler from selling the J8 to US citizens. The regulators and bureaucrats think we are too stupid to know whats in our own best interest so they will use the force of government to force their ideas on the rest of us. What ever happened to freedom and the pursuit of happiness? Damn the government to hell!

Write a letter to Mopar and ask them to offer these parts.
The problem they would have in filling these orders is from their suppliers.
Currently the J8 is shipped in KD kit format (knock down) to Arab American Vehicles (AAV) in Cairo and as the Storm 3, to Automotive Industries Ltd., in Israel.
It is assembled there, as there is not room in Toledo.

I'm still puzzled by the failure of Jeep to supply the J8 kits to AEV as was first contemplated a few years ago and we may never know why the program is run the way it is at Jeep.

my lame guess would be that dealers, maybe non aev dealers, call chrysler and said no way - shut it down b/c we don't want aev poaching our business of selling regular (ie ordinary) jeeps to people. a few big buyers have a ton of leverage over a small outfit trying to do a unique run of 150cars - the press would be great for aev and horrible for chrysler and the non aev dealers. the fear and ensuing headache from 1000 or 5000 orders coming in that cannot be fulfilled wasn't worth it? or it won't pass emissions and crash test. or jeep wants to do it on there own in 2015 when planst re-tool for new frame/carriage

there is NO incentive for jeep to sell anything unique when they sell 100% of the annual production at max capacity in toledo.

want a cool jeep? stop buying the boring new ones and force them to acquiesce to your request for even cooler products (i deserve an aev forum ban for saying that I think).
