View Full Version : Swapping TCMs on a 3.7L from an SRT8

So I've been talking with a guy from another forum about swapping TCMs for a possible solution to changing gears. I currently have 32" BFGs on Pintlers and 3.07 gears and want to move up to 3.73. Was thinking I could get a used SRT8 TCM since they came with 3.73 gears and use the same trans. I know the AEV EGR can correct for 3.73 and 4.10 so I would use that to correct the speedo but not permanently install it since I have an OME lift. So onto my questions:

1). I have a 2005. Would any year SRT8 TCM theoretically work on mine?
2). Is there any other things that would need to get updated through the dealer's StarScan? Again, I would use the EGR to correct the speedo.
3). Any other issues you guys can see...like does the SRT8 TCM have a more aggressive shift scheme that may not work well with the 3.7L?

This isn't going to work from what I understand of the WK's setups.

Your 3.7lt WK has a Jeep derived 545RFE Auto, the SRT8's Run the Mercedes W5a580 or Nag1 box in Jeep Speak.

I don't believe the car will even shift into gear let alone plug in to each other !

Now if you're talking about actually swapping in an Srt8 Nag 1 box, there would be a tonne of work involved.
Chassis mounts, tunnel clearance issues, hydraulic plumbing, auto coolers, shifting level issues when protruding into the cabin, not to mention the bell housing comparability

Actually the 3.7 has the NAG1, the 4.7L and 5.7L come with the 545RFE so I'm good with the trans issue.

Any other issues that might crop with this swap? Some have said the TCM is VIN specific and will throw a code if the VINs don't match. But if its not a code that will illuminate the MIL or cause limp home mode, than its probably a DTC that I can live with.

Wow are u sure? That's the 1st time I've heard that before, I don't think the 3.7's over here came with nag1's ! What a bonus !

I like it, lower first gear than the 545RFE. But to take advantage I'd like to re-gear for my larger tires, thus my quest to go from 3.07 to 3.73.

Do you still have plans to sell any of your products in the states?

absolutely, I'm working out something with an existing supplier of mine in Detroit (no not AEV !). He's looking at a premises at the moment. All these things take time I guess.
