Hey Everyone,
I wondered if anyone heard of the warranty being voided due to water leaking through the vents into the engine compartment.

I have never heard of that, especially since many of the enviromental contaminants come in past the radiator, from underneath the Jeep, etc... I did read one review once where they said not to park it outside in the winter because the water will freeze on the belts causing them to shred when you start the engine, which I have a hard time believing. I would think that AEV has already taken this into consideration since they are based in Montana, and get lots of snow, rain, and other weather conditions they need to build their own vehicles for.

I ended up calling my dealer today. At first they couldn't give a straight answer but did admit the engine compartment was already unprotected from the radiator and tire spitting up mud and water. So they would not be able to blame the hood if something happened. So I have their blessing to purchase the hood now. :D

Thanks for the reply.

Dealers are always trying to get out of warranty coverage. When I worked in car audio they would tell mutual customers that anything added on to the car other than factory could void the warranty. Had to finally get a lawyer involved and we learned that it's up to the dealer to prove the aftermarket piece was directly responsible for the damage.

It's actually very difficult to void a warranty due to mods as the manufacturer has to prove a direct link to the mod(s) for the car failure . If a dealer has given you problems please refer to the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" (google it for more info). The law is definitely on your side. You should also contact SEMA (the Specialty Equipment Market Association) which can help you as well.

Ok, I have got the AEV Hood on my JK and LOVE it. However I live North Jersey (I know, Iam sorry too) anyway, iam worried about this Winter and the hood openings.

My JK sets outside uncovered at all times. With the snow and ice I know we will get I don't want a build-up of ice in the engine compartment.

What if AEV would offer a sold cover for the openings. Stamp them out of the same press as the mesh covers, just solid. We could then unbolt the mesh cover and replace them with the solid covers for the winter.

Would like your thoughts on this issue....

I think it could be interesting to see the solid replacement panels in the hood, but I would only think you would need to do the top panel, and the others should be just fine. Also if you have a sloid panel would the water then just collect on top of the hood and make a puddle?

i dont think it would be to big of a problem as the parts are being designed here in MT were we see immense amount of snow ice and all that for 3/4ths of the year

Jon,

Yes, I think your right on the puddle on top of the hood. But I think I would rather have a puddle than a build-up of ice, water, or snow IN the engine bay.

As far as the side panals I would like the option of haveing them just because NJ loves to use salt iin the winter and I would like to keep it out of the engine bay also.

Wish someone from AEV would chime in to see what they think of this idea. If they don't want to make them maybe I would have them made myself.......

I am sure it is designed well enough and with enough thought to where I am not too concerned about the snow and ice, especially since I can fit my JK in the garage with a lift and 37" tires if my measurements are correct with room to spare since I have about 10" of clearance stock.

I don't dought the design of the hood, I would just like a little more peace of mind.

Like I said earlyer, my JK must set outside all the time. I have got a three car garage with way to many toys to go in it.

I don't see where any answers came out of this post. I have the Heat Reduction Hood with the VVT Hemi and am running the K&N filter supplied by AEV when they did the install. even when washing the Jeep and being very careful not to spray water directly into the right side vent the filter still gets wet. I can only imagine how wet this filter is going to get when it starts pouring rain. I live in Washington State and we get a boat load of rain a year. Hopefully AEV will come out with some way of keeping rain from coming into the engine bay through the vents.
