I was reading in a magazine a few months ago that adventure trailers was making a product that replaced the bed of the Brute with essentially one of their trailers. Is there any other plans for future accesories for the Brute to make it even more versalite?

The guys at adventure trailers are pretty excited for someone to pull the trigger on a Brute with their box. I figured it out onetime, if you buy a Brute without the bed, the Adventure Box and a Rooftop tent for on top the box, you're almost in the same spot financially. A pretty good deal I thought.
We've done the Brute Rack, Tire Carrier will probably be next.

I was catching up on the forum and came across the beautiful expedition Brute with the utility rack in the gallery. Did this ever go into production? How was it attached to the bed? AND finally, if not in production how would I go about having one fabbed up.:D

Is the utility rack (http://www.aev-conversions.com/news/?p=42) for the Brute still available to customers? If so, is it still priced at $899, per further back in this thread?

I've tried to get one on at least two different occasions, including spec'ing one when AEV did my Brute conversion. But they still hadn't done the run they were planning to do of them when my Brute was done and I wasn't willing to wait on delivery of my Brute for one. I've since asked about them and been told they were "on the way" and that I'd be let know, but never heard anything. I can only assume since they aren't listed for sale anywhere and nobody contacted me that they are still not done for some reason.
That said, even if they did get done, I'm not sure I'd order one. I've got access to people that could make something very similar for very similar money, and I can't imagine shipping one of those is easy (and I'm not sure I want it if it bolts together). Now, that said, if the AEV one had a soft top that came with it, I'd be much more interested. Finding someone to make something like that *well* is much harder. I actually have one more requirement that makes it all even harder....I want a fairly waterproof soft top for the rear rack *and* I want to be able to put a roof rack on *that*. Which means holes for the rack posts and thus places to leak. *sigh*
Now, a spare tire carrier for the Brute would be a VERY welcome addition. That was the ONLY part that seemed out of place when I got my Brute...the spare was just nicely strapped into the center of the bed. Which I promptly removed and don't carry with me any more. Well, unless I'm on the trail with it, but it pretty much takes up the entire bed for a 37" tire.

If AEV ever does build a spare tire carrier for the Brutes, it'll certainly be interestin' to see what size tire it'll support.
I'm gettin' a carrier fabbed up right now that'll hold my 40" spare. Top of the tire's gonna be almost cab height.
The accessory I'd most like to see is somethin' a lil' more substantial to hold the tailgate shut. In my opinion, the standard ones are cheesy at best and the internal springs are already worn out on mine.
Maybe a carpet kit for the inside of the new cab??

Given that the "smallest" Brutes seem to all have 35" tires, I'm sure it'll be able to handle up to 40" or so, anyway.

Interesting. Mine has seen a lot of use and the springs are still fine. But I do agree that the tailgate could use a little work, too. Seems a little sketch that you can see through the joint between the tailgate and the bed on the sides so easily.

Eh? For the rear? I'm not sure I see why. My factory carpet was cut and works fine for the part I care to be carpeted. For other reasons I did pull it out and have the entire tub rhino-lined, but I put the carpet back. Sound is much better, insulation is also better. But then I also had this built:

These were taken before the install was quite complete, but it's been done a while and I'm really happy with the results. Before I did the Brute conversion I had put the Tuffy console in with the subwoofer in there. I decided I wanted to just dedicate the space behind the seats for the speakerbox, though, so I upgraded my console to the one with the full cavity (and no room for a sub) and then had this box made.
I've thought about seeing if there was interest in making a few of these to sell, but I'm doubting I'd find 20 or so buyers to get the cost down to $300 or so. Plus I don't think AEV would give me permission to use their logo in a product. :D
