View Full Version : ESP and "other" lifts (not Superlift)

Guys,
We've been getting a lot of questions regarding using the EGR module with other lifts.
The Short Answer:
The module is calibrated specifically for the Superlift lift and will not work on any other lift. In fact it will cause major ESP issues on vehicles with other lifts.
That being said...
If you were to use the programming features (ONLY) of the EGR to reprogram the speedometer, the transmission would shift correctly and the ESP would be closer to normal because at least the speed would be correct for a given condition. Vehicle speed is very important to the ESP system. You could also use the toggle feature for the "Reverse Mirror Tilt" and one touch lane change. Basically you would use the module to reprogram, you just wouldn't be able to install it in the vehicle.

Can we rent one then :)

The units lock to each vehicles VIN so that they can't be "rented". If you catch up with us at an event, we normally will re-program anyone's speedo for free.

Do you go to any events in the mid-west?

We should be going to a few. Hopefully we will be posting some sort of schedule after x-mas.
For those of you who just need a speedo correction, we will have a lower cost box out soon primarily for the JK, but it will work with the WK/XK as well.

Will this one also have the mirror tilt option as well?

I would be interested in one that I can change the tire size, mirror tilt, DRL, and one touch lane feature.

I am assuming it would not have the mirror tilt since it is for the JK, and that doesn't have the power mirrors.

If the EGR module doesn't work on other lifts what can we use? I have the Rocky Road 2.25" lift and after about 300 or 400 miles after installing my lift I started having ESP issues. Please help!!

What of problems are you getting? I have the same lift and I only have problems from the tire size.

Sort of hard to explain...so I will try my best.
When you give it gas it feels like it is studdering. (sort of feels like you are running out of gas) There are three icons that appear. The car with the skid mark, the esp, and the bas and then the service 4wd message appears
Hope this is clear enough

HemiGirl -
Sounds like a problem with your Jeep. If you give it gas and the lights come on, the car is either slipping or it thinks it is. Since you are also getting the message to service 4wd, I think you might have an issue other than what the EGR module handles.
Just so everyone is clear - The Superlift knuckles change the rate in which the car turns so the car thinks it should be on one radius but instead its on another, which is what caused the ESP to go nuts. The EGR module corrects this.
A much smaller issue is the speed, but it will cause certain issues (not the ones you describe) In this case, the car thinks it is going slower than it is, but when you go around a curve the tables don't match up for the given speed along with the current throttle input, lat acceleration, yaw, etc...so it can cause minor issues but again not what you are describing.

These are the problems I have by having larger tires.
Hemigirl-
I agree with Matt here that there might be something wrong with your jeep. I have not heard of any esp problems with that sizes of lift.

I know that they are working on a module that corrects only the tire size. This may correct some of the issues because I know that many things in the computer depend on it know the correct speed of the vehicle.

This would be great as I have been looking for a fix for my speedo now that I am running 265's.

Hi all,
The trouble I was having was with the tire sensor wire was touching the tire and was getting pretty will wore through. The dealership is ordering the part and for now they pulled the wire tight and added electrical tape to it until the part comes in.
Next question, does anyone know if the WK's computer can be adjusted for one size up of tires?

the dealer can't change the tire size, but you can buy tools that can.

AEV currently has a programmer out there to resizethe tires, correct the esp, etc... if you are running the Superlift suspension. If you are running another and just want the tire size they are working on a kit to reprogram the tire size for the JK and I thin Dave was saying that it is going to be able to do the tire size on the WK, and should be cheaper that the module that is currently out as it will not have many of the other features.

By time this happens though I will have a new Grand Cherokee with the Superlift I am sure. Even though I dont plan on trading in or selling any time soon! Hope I'm wrong though I would love a fix for the speedo and computer.

Matt,
Are you guys coming out with an EGR module exactly like the superlift one?
Does the one you now offer for the 2.25" lift the same amount of correction as that one? (save the options) I just want my shift points, speedo and ESP working properly. Does it give you select choices or can we enter our tire size in for more accurate settings???
Would like to get the one with all the goodies, though, like you have for the superlifts.
Thank you.
Waiting patiently, (as possible)
John
Do you know yet, when and if you will be in the midwest? At the St. Louis Autoshow, perhaps? I think it's in February. I'm sure many people around would love to see you guys there.

The Jeeps that do not have the Superlift or BDS ( Which uses Superlift knuckles) should use the JK programmer to change speedo and other functions. It will have no provisions for true ESP correction other than the speedo.

Are you guys working on a full version EGR module for the 2.25 RR lift?
Is the speedo correction the biggest part of the ESP problems I have? If so, will the JK version fix that?
And isn't it more the size of the tires that affects the ESP, than the lift?
Where will you guys be next???? St. Louis Autoshow?:)
Thanks,
John

The spacer lifts don't need a "full" version, they just need the speedo correction. The superlift knuckles required the steering rate to change to package everything effectively, this is what causes most of the esp issues, so if you don't change the knuckles, all that you have to do is reprogram the speedo.
Moab I believe.

order it off of the this site I believe...under JK accessories.
The dealer can only recalibrate up to a certain sized tire...no 32" or 33" tires to my recollection

It is located under WK accessories, and it is also located under te electronic modules section. I also posted a direct link to it.

i see ProComp sells a calibration unit for the JK. Do you think it would work with my Commander?

The AEV unit is not up on the website yet because they aren't in stock. The ProComp unit should work just fine, though we haven't tried it.
