I have a 2007 unlimited and a donor 5.7l and 45rfe out of a 4wd Grand Cherokee. I'm trying to get an idea of how long (in labor hours) it should take to remove the 3.8l and tranny and then to install the hemi and 45rfe into the Wrangler. I won't need times including exhaust, because I need to get the lift installed first. Assume that this will be done in a dealership shop (I'm a general manager at a Jeep store) with all the tools necessary to do the job.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna do the swap, just trying to figure out how much down time without my Wrangler!

For most shops it takes between 2 & 3 days (16-24 hours) to do the swap, including exhaust. I would think the exhaust would be pretty quick since it just bolts on so maybe take an hour out of that time.

Typically the install itself requires about 30-35 hrs for one technician. We charge 45 hours which includes shakedown, testing and any tweaking that may be required.

We've done one in 13 hours for a HEMI class for our dealers with two dedicated technicians who have done them before and with no distractions.

Dave, I couldn't find your email address, so I figured I would post a reply to the thread. I got on the phone with LKQ (provider for the 2005 5.7L) and was able to obtain an 06 5.7 out of a XK with 13,000 miles. For $800 more I was able to get the motor with 30,000 less miles and all of the accessories, so needless to say I am pleased. Just wanted to say thank you for your help, and to add my recommendation for you guys!

One more question: I believe I saw somewhere on the kit literature that a programmer is included in the kit. If so, when I order the kit, probably tomorrow, if I give you guys the tire size and gears, will you be able to program this info in order to get the speedo, odometer, and shift points back to stock? Does this programmer perform like the aftermarket ones ( ie hypertech) in that you can juice the engine performance a hair?

Thanks again, you guys are TRUE professionals!

The ProCal module isn't shipping yet, but we'll send you one when its ready (soon). Besides all the tire and gear stuff, the ProCal allows the average guy to also program the VIN and to learn the pedal without going to a dealer. We won't be able to program the other stuff without the Jeep, but I don't think it will be an issue because the module will probably be there before you're done with the conversion.

Good news on the powertrain!
