I wasn't going to write anything but apparently you need at least 10 characters to make a post.

There really needs to be stop-gap on the rear cab to make it look right, but I'm used to having the top off for summer.

Looks awesome Jordan...

But you're right it does need a few extra inches to match the bed height...

Man there's so much potential in this thread... Hot... Topless... Extra Inches... Bed... I better be careful or my ISP will throw the old censor switch here in the Middle East!!

So - I think all it needs is the bottom part of a Hard Top...

Here's a photoshop with a level bed / tub.

And here's a better idea... a fiberglass hoop that kinda has a bit of a sport boat look to it - and serves as an attachment point for a fabric top and rear with two sections that clip in on each side to fill the gap between the fabric and the doors...

Or take a bit of inspiration from the factory sunrider option - and have the hoop / side sections one piece, but an absolutely massive fabric sunroof that either flips back like the OE top, or slides backwards like the new Liberty.

Then the rear screen can just unzip and roll up behind the seats.

I'd love to see a power sliding top like the Liberty, complete with an electric rear window that drops down into the rear bulkhead, but that'd be silly money I'm sure :D

We did this one:

Its OK, but finding the time to do the softtop would be better, that way the softtop could fold down into that area.

Sweet truck. For when the top's off, an extra piece on the back of the cab is what I was thinking of too. Maybe one with snaps or some other way to fasten a softtop. A softtop that would fold down into that area would be ideal.

I really like the look with the cab level with the bed. If I had one though, I would probably forget to put the top back on before putting stuff in the bed, and it would hit me when braking (personal problem of not always thinking before doing).:o

Maybe a fiberglass piece that attaches around and would "hold" a folded up soft top and protect it. Also would serve as the rear base for the soft top when it is up.

It sounds kind of like the old Kaiser military style trucks. That sounds very exciting.

Undisclosed. Can't Say. Top Secret. ** ******* Redacted. ;)

I like to think of it as 'my' color. But, since I wouldn't have picked it out without Dave's help, its not the end of the world if someone else uses it, they just had better not live in Missoula.

Its an 2005 Nissan Under Hood color, its called Sand iirc. Odd that its called Sand since its gray/green. I've never been anywhere the sand looks like that (maybe its the color in Ginza or Chuo-ku?).

When we went in to buy it, we asked the guy at our local paint store for a price by the gallon. He was very adamant that this is an 'under hood color' and you can't paint a whole car that color!

There are a bunch of cool colors in that family, all non-metallics.

Okay I think I've found it.

Is it a single stage paint?

It could be, but in my case it isn't.

Its designed as an underhood color which as I understand it is almost always single stage (no clear coat)

I looked into doing the whole vehicle that way but it doesn't have nearly the right amount of UV protection and durability. My paint guy pretty much said that he would do it, but I shouldn't look to him if it faded or started to change in a couple years.

I decided to clear over that and ended up with a medium cost paint job that looks great and should last quite awhile.

Ok but way not build the bed lower to match the tub and the highline fenders seems to me that a "stop-gap" would just be a simple fix to the bigger problem. Here is what I'm getting at.

a bed that looks to be less then 12 inch tall ?
for me the point of adding the bed is to be able to load it

It does make sense to make the cab and bed the same height for cleaner, IMO, topless look. Has anyone tried to raise the cab line? It would then make the common point hood, cab, bed...

Why do you say the bed would less than 12 inches tall? If I remember, the inside height of the rear(or bed) of a TJ is about 16 inches. This is something that I had already concidered. I went to the junk yard and did some measuring on some smaller pickup beds and they also were around 16 inches. OK, I just measured the inside height of the back section of my TJ. It measures 16.5 inches(top of the floor to top of the bed).
This is my opinion,....the Brute looks great as is with the top on, but with the top off it doesn't look quite right. I know the bed looks a little low if you match it up with the back of the cab, but I think the lower bed looks better with a soft top and no top. This is how I like my Jeeps.

Hi.

I had a similar idea..... but with a shorter box height

So that is what I'm shooting for on my build.....

With the bed level it really takes away from the OEM look to me and starts looking like a home made job.For anyone that does like that look there is another company getting ready to come out with a TJ truck with that style of bed...a company i believe AEV as worked with before..not sure how i feel about that.
