I am very interested in the one-piece rear door for the TJ. Does it require a different top, or is it a modified unit?
Are there plans for putting this item in production?:D

I was reading an article in Jeap Freak about this a couple years ago, and it was a custom one off item that ran the CNC machine for like 2 weeks straight. At that time there were no plans to put it into production as you could not take the top of the Jeep off.

We have no plans for production, it was a great idea for what that vehicle was used for. I made it out of an inner and outer composite skin with a steel hinge structure so that we could mount heavy items to it. I found a couple photos of it.

Dave and I did have the CNC running for about two weeks. He design and preps stock, I program and monitoring.

I think we probably only spent one week on the door and rear cap. The flares for the XK took the other week.

Its a lot of time for one offs but it looks good in the photo :)

Is the rear bumper on the TJ in the picture the same as the Mopar bumper Jeep offers? I have the front bumper that you guys designed, but I haven't committed to the rear just yet. I really want a bumper with a tire carrier option. What type of tire carrier did you guys use on the diesel TJ? I noticed that it carries a 37-inch tire and would probably work for what I wanted.

That is the Mopar Rock bumper to go with the one that AEV designed for the front. it has just been re-painted to go with the color scheme.

Look close at the CAD drawing, see the two HD steel tubes hidden inside the door? Thats the tire carrier mount.

We did have a TC option for Mopar, but they cost cut it out.

Too right, WAY too much time for a one off, therefore, production is the only suitable option.

I'm not a hard top kinda guy but if I was... I'd be much happier with one door rather than two...

Dave - how about a more bolt-on revisit? The upper window frame slots into a bracket placed between the tailgate and tire carrier (or direct to the tailgate if a swing-out is used) and then use a fiberglass filler panel that bolts in to the existing window hinge mounts and then locks in place down at the bottom of the hard top.

It wouldn't be quite as OE as what you've already designed, but it would give people the flexibility of removing that rear window when they want to go topless.

Just an idea... doesn't bother me too much. Last time I had the hard top on was just for one road trip in December :)

While the expedition door idea is really cool....

Why not just a replacement rear tailgate that would work in all stock applications BUT would retain the inner steel structure to allow a much larger than stock spare tire without having to have a swing out on the bumper. The factory hinges could be braced to the body better on the tub side, perhaps to the roll bar area or something. Make it look stock and function ten times better. A fold down table on the inside of the door would be slick. Also, a stop or lockout that would keep that door open on hills would be a good addition. Maybe even a gas strut to hold it open?
