I have an 06 limited 5.7 with arb bull and warn 9.5 winch and superlift 4". The front has sagged and I noticed that you have arb and winch as an accessory.
I was wondering what aev does to correct the weight problem and get the stance back?
Thanks in advance,
Will
P.S. Thanks for ESP Correction:):)

Contact Superlift re an additional 1/4" spacer that goes on top of the strut (not inside it like the original), the 1/4 inch at the strut will equate to almost 1/2" of lift at the wheel.

Dave,
Thanks for the response.
First I have to say awsome job on the Commander Iceland Expedition Vehicle!!
I now want more than a 4" lift on my wk. I have been wheeling it and the QDII has never let me down but the height has.
One option on the problem of the weight of the arb/winch was looking at the OME heavy coil which is a two inch lift. So I started thinking -- add the 2" in the front (OME heavy) and use half of a BB in the rear added to superlift 4".
Two more inches on a 4" superlift would of made a lot of difference on the trails that I have been on.
Maybe the beer talkin,

maybe a full real coil-over lift kit could be made. i think spacers are really stupid. they don't allow for anymore suspension travel.

Spacers also don't adress any of the suspension geometry issues that can arise either.

straight axle conversion for the win!
atleast that's my plan in the next couple of years, hopefully.
I think you're going to be asking for some serious problems if you do that...

I agree the axles would explode with anything much larger than a 34" and some serious off roading. Without more aftermarket support is would be very difficult to do this, and get the drivelines right. You also would need to do some serious trimming of the wheel wells to get those to fit.
init4thefun,
You should just spend the 5k or so and do a SAS.

you could probably keep the rear axle. if someone would build a real locker for it. they area full-floater. i'm not sure on the spline count or diameter but they are pretty stout.
i guess the 5.7 hemi has a dana 44 for a rear axle. hopefully its not the old aluminum housing style.
upgrade the control arms, and then build a simple 3 link up front with a high pinion ford 9" with D60 outers.

It gets to be so expensive to do a solid axle swap that it may become a little impractical for the size of the tire you can run in the wheel well. Look at the WJ, or the ZJ, even though those had a SFA it would take a lot of fabbing and modifications needed to run larger than a 34" tire. I know that they used to run an IFS Dana 44 in the older Bronco's. I would think that you could fab this in for less than a solid axle swap, and still get the strength and aftermarket support that is out there for a Dana 44.

well with any modification its going to cost money. it just depends on what you like.
i personally like my commander. i love the interior and the exterior, i like the motor and transmission. i don't like full-time 4 wheel drive. but i live with it.
my personal set-up would be a front solid axle. 4.10 gears, 33-35" tires, cut fender wells to fit. some bumpers, and rock sliders.
anyway. this would be my set-up if i had the money right now. i think in a few years after this thing is paid off i'll do the swap. it would then be really trail rated!!!!

Got spacers for front from Rusty's off road. Adding 2 1/4" spacers to each side which should give me close to 1" increase in front.
Ordered Maxxis Bighorn tires 305/70/17.
There is no way I would give up QDII 4 SAS,

and your QDII will never do this with your IFS

thats my old rock crawler toyota, it had a supra motor, and Lincoln lockers!

They were just designed for 2 different things. The Grand Mojave eddition is more of an all around vehicle, and more comfortable. A rock crawler is more purpose built. I would say build it the way you want it, and as long as you like it that is all that matters.

Those are some awesome pictures showing what a WK can do. Do you have any sliders, or what are you doing to protect the body?

i 'know. i've wheeled my commander pretty good with QT2. it does very well.
my toyota in stock form would not have gone where the commander went in stock form.
but for my wants, i need a real axle upfront with articulation. i hate 3 wheeling with my commander all the time.
But it can be wheeled ;)

Thanks!! Have 4xGuard sliders. Worked well till I went on a trail called Smasher in Sedona, AZ. They are coming out with a Hard Core version 1st of the year so I will test those out. :D
Nice pics 4.7 !!!

Yeah the new HC's should do the trick for sure. They seem to be built extremely well knowing Russ!

YUP, you can expect the best from Russ and his fabricator(s.) I was also delighted to see him offerring the rails unpainted(saving folks $50 or so.) I'm opting to keep'em black for the Laredo door molding aspects...etc.
I'm curious to see what he comes up with next. I think the front bar isn;t going to happen...I've gotten that feeling from conversations with him and other miscellaneous statements he's made over on JU and his website. Oh well, I don't blame him for this. He's still very high up on my cool list! welp, time for me to leave work...talk to you folks another time..sleepy time:p
