Default Painted Interior Hardtop and Freedom Tops

Just wanted to post a pic of my painted hardtop and freedom tops. I used spray can bedliner from Lowes and will be adding hothead headliners to the hardtop later today. I really hated the white interior(I have a tank green JKU)...plus it got so dirty so fast. Either way, I really like the way it turned out. What do you think?

I like it a lot, had a coupe quick questions:

1. Did you remove the latches and everything or just tape off?
2. What did you do to the surface for prep?

I'm really thinking about doing this to mine before next winter when i put the hardtop back on.

Looks great. I have thought about it but prefer the white to lighten it up the interior.

I took the latches of the front T-tops(very easy to remove). As for the back hardtop (unconnected the back window struts from the inside of the hardtop so that i could paint underneath where they connected. Layed the window back and then taped brown paper bags over it. I taped off the side windows(used brown lawn bag for that also so that i didn't have to use so much tape, unconnected the back windshield wiper and electrical switches and taped those off. Put small rolled up tape in any screw holes. Other than that, not really that much more. Then went to town on the painting. Did the T-tops one day and the hardtop the next(let it all sit a couple days)...Added the headliners after 2 days. Take your time, i had a couple issues with runs on the sides but thats just because i wasn't taking my time..i quickly wiped them and because you are using bedliner...you can paint over and then really can't tell the difference. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

2. What did you do to the surface for prep?
I didn't really do anything but wipe it down with a wet rag and let dry....with using bedliner...you are gonna get a tacky outcome so its not like you have a perfect canvas. And if you get any dings or scratches in the future...pull out the spray can and hit it real quick. I'm sure i could of done more maybe, but i didn't. The headliners cover a lot of the area themselves( i got headliners for ttops, back and sides of hardtop).

that's true...the black makes it much darker now of course...but that white just didn't go with mine. i have a tank green JKU and everything else on it is black. Not a fan of the white and it got dirty so easy.

Looks great! I agree, the white gets dirty quick and needs a good solvent to clean. Have you reinstalled the top yet? How does the paint on the latching surface hold of against the rubbing of the latch mechanism?

I'm sure some of the paint will wear off in certain area's where top meets the jeep or latches....I have no problem with that as those area's won't really be seen. And touch ups are super easy with bedliner....I can hit it a couple times of year with touch-ups if need be.

Nice job! I've had other jeep owners in my jeep and they all have commented how much nicer the painted interior hardtop is over stock.
