Default New to AEV: Love your Lifts, hate your 3rd brake lights!

Well after buying my first set of tires, I decided to try out the procal module. That's when i learned all about AEV and your products. I really like your approach for your lift kits. I'll be soon a happy AEV lift owner. I haven't decided 3.5 vs 4.5 yet but as soon as my project is done, I'll share the pics.

In the mean time, I have a bone to pick! I had the 3rd brake light from AEV and unfortunately after a year, it stopped working. After taking out the LEDs out of the housing, I learned that the circuit board holding the resistors and the leds corroded right through! Kinda expected for a poorly insulated housing. After calling customer service, I realized that it will cost something like $40 to replace so I ended up buying the delta lugnut LEDs instead. They're insulated against the weather pretty good.

That doesn't take away from the quality AEV builds or deters me from using AEV products since it was a dinky little LED lights made in China but just I thought I would share this with you.

Interesting. We've been selling those lights for about 10 years, I've never seen that but will take it into account. You know we would have sent you a new one no problem, right?

Sorry about that.

Hey Dave, I know you guys could have and your support was pretty fast in getting me quote but the shipping quote came in for $30 for a $10 light.. $40 in totaljust didn't make sense at the time knowing that it might happen again. I am guessing you guys didn't design or build the lights and it seems like its an off the shelf component. The bracket is also way over designed to hold such small lights. The housing when I openned it seemed like the only weatherproofing it had was some hot glue injected to hold the circuit board in place.

I'm planning on using the bracket for another reason. I'm gonna mount a rear view camera so in a way its not a total waste.

The light is an over the counter item that they include with the bracket. A while back I saw the light at a truck stop.

I know that compared to the stock CHMSL is is a much cleaner and sleeker design that is less noticeable. At the same time it doesn't have nearly the same light output.

I have had mine on my Jeep for 4 years now, and I just took it off the bracket so I could repaint the bracket. The AEV items that don't have the textured powder coat don't seem to like the MagCl on our roads in the winter time. At the same time I don't think that many companies could do any better.

I'd like to mount this kind of third stop light on a custom rollcage.

I am not interested in the AEV bracket. Where can I buy this small red LED light separately?

Thanks

This light is an off the shelf item. I know West Marine sells them. I've got several spares in my shop as I use this same light on my boat.

This one appears to be fairly close if you need a replacement.

Hi Dave,
My AEV third brake light just failed, the camera is still working fine. I have a JK250 that was delivered in Feb 2014. Can you please help me replace this?
Thanks,
Jay
