Default Hemi 6.4L/8HP70 swap compatibility question

I'm posting for a friend of mine who is looking to do a HEMI swap into his 2010 JKU. He has a 6.4L with an 8HP70 six speed trans sitting on a pallet in the garage. It came with the factory wire harness and computer. According to the guy we ordered it from, it came out of a 2016 Grand Cherokee SRT. Does anybody know if he will have compatibility issues with the 8HP70 trans? All the HEMI swap info I'm finding on the web pertains to the WA580 and 545RFE. Is there a swap kit available which would match the donor 8HP70 to his Rubicon transfer case and also provide the required wiring harness? He contacted Atlas yesterday and they told him the 8HP70 is not compatible with the Atlas 4 he has in the Jeep at the moment. I also contacted Hotwireauto.com looking for a custom GC to JKU wire harness but was told the 8HH70 is not going to be compatible with the 2010 JK's "different communication protocol" Where do we go from here? Anybody here running a 6.4L/8HP70 combo in there JK? If so, how'd you do it?

Thanks in advance
Jay

The 8hp70 is useless as of right nowwith a JK Hemi swap....545rfe is the only option for a 2010 Jk Hemi swap....the wa580 is 12 and up JKs

Oh boy... That's not good news. Is the 545rfe ok with the power of the 6.4L?

It's a three-quarter ton Dodge truck transmission so yes it's OK with the horsepower. The 545 RFE was the only transmission option up until 2012 when they came out with a W a 580 in the JK wrangler

I see,

So if we swap this 8HP70 for an older 545RFE and order a custom wire harness specific to the 2007-2012 JK we should be ok as far as electricals go correct? Were trying to get to a point where we can at least start and test run the motor on the shop floor.

Thanks for the info!

Yes you will need a 545rfe....you will also need a. Starter for a 545 RFE along with dust shield, flex plate and possibly a bushing for the crank (or take one out of the crank) for the torque converter to snub into. You going to need to order a swap kit aka harness, computer, radiator, ac lines, power steering lines, engine mounts , trans mounts, exhaust, battery box, intake, fuel lines and coolant res. Your not going to be able to just plug everything in on the ground and fire it up. The pcm is married to your jeeps vin and needs to see a secret key code (skim).

07-11 are gen 1 JKs (3.8L with 42rle trans)
12-17 are gen 2 JKs (3.6L with wa580)

AEV doesn't sell just a harness or just a computer. They sell only kits. I would not recommend going anywhere else for a kit. No one has as complete kit as AEV does. Plus there Hemi programs are better. I've installed a dozen or better hemis using there kits. I've installed a dozen or better hemis using "others" "kits" and had issues and or chased correct parts around to complete the install.

It's your money obviously so do what you want. I just thought I'd give my 2 cents.

I hear ya on the kit. Totally the way I would go. However, this is actually my buddy's project and he's looking to piece together and fab as much of the swap as possible. He runs a Jeep shop here on the island and does a ton of custom builds. Only problem is that he's doesn't speak English, so he needs my help to source parts. I just fount this parts check list on line. The writ-up was for a 6.1L but I'm assuming the list would be about the same for a 6.4L Any thoughts?

The donor engine came with some of this stuff. Unfortunately he won't be checking the oil pan off the list. the shipper did a pretty sh!ty pallet job.

Thanks again for the input.
