During the week of March 6th, AEV hosted its annual In-Field 4WD Training Program at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, located in Florence, Oregon. The program was instructed by Chris Wood. Chris is a certified instructor with the International 4WD Trainers Association and the program he teaches provides students with a foundation in off-road driving, vehicle recovery, trip preparation, navigation and emergency response.
The program takes roughly ten hours to complete and during this period the students gradually work their way up to tackling dunes as steep as 70-degrees and as high as six stories. Over the last five years the program has attracted between 30 and 40 students per year, with many coming in from out of state and a few coming in from out of country. While the weather was challenging at times, the overall experience made students more confident conquering the dunes.
