  • TJ Brute - "The Unicorn" - buildout

After years of wanting one last spring I decided to see if I could find and purchase a complete Brute kit for a future build after i finished my long tern FJ40 4BT project. I searched and searched to no avail, at that point my awesome wife encouraged me to give in and purchase a completed brute. I found several to look at and then worked out a deal with the one Chris from Crossville jeep had for sale. At the moment the only thought I had was an eventual engine swap. Well to say "the best laid plans often go astray" is and understatement. attached pictures should get you all thinking just a little. Trust me there is a plan with a reason
Dat 1 loaded and headed back to Virginia Prepping the truck for ? More Prep

Prior to the complete tare down I pulled the AEV seats to see if I could get the bottoms repaired, not an easy feat when you live where I live. After talking to several upholstery shops I was about to give up when a body shop friend give me a small hot rod upholster. He knew the seats and was able to get original perforated leather from recaro. It wasn't cheap but they are almost as good as new ones at 20% the cost

Roll cage build, I kept the main hoop & installed all DOM tubing side bars, windshield cross bars and tie in's and center bars. After I tacked it up I pulled it out and welded it up. Then it was off to the powder coating in silver. I need to add fab up a rear harness bar for the 5pt harness

Good call on the extra expense on the Recaro's. Those are a great asset to the overall AEV Brute build. Nice!!!

BTW Will your build is very impressive!! Also what state you in?

Ok so the Baja 4000 is a 10 day 3000 mile event leaving Los Angeles runs down the east cost of baja then backup the west cost ending in LA. Self sufficiency good navigation skills, recovery experience needed knowledge of Baja and mexican language pluses. I am only interested in the race category, as it has 9 special stages. this a not a speed event. it is run very two years. Cost is half the entry and what ever else you need to survive.
Bamako web site has more info

Thanks Ben, it was a big nut $900 I believe he gave me a break since the leather was $400 of that. In the grand scheme this was cheap comparing it the King coil overs. Trying to decide on what make 5pt harness will work best witches seats...any suggestions

sneak preview, Brute models built by Axis Industries USA. One requirement I had was to minimize width and height they nailed it...axle width increased only about an 1 1/2' very tight packaging
