Don't hate me if this has been covered before. So, I've been trying to read and decide on another set up for a 02 Brute. It currently has the 2.5 Old Man Emu, which I've always been a big fan of. And maybe I should stick with it. But, I fill like it has some age ,and if nothing else the front needs a spring replacement. I want to keep it around 2.5 or 3" ,4" max. It's has the Highline kit and I'm not going any bigger than 35". I want to ditch the spacers, full spring up front, beef the control arm, and sway bar and disconnects... Thinking i want to keep the short arm? Unless can be convinced to switch it up. Dont think I need a remote res shock, I'm not racing Dakar, although they look nice. What are some of the better choices in what I listed, I was thinking Fox shocks (no reason really but seem decent) the Kings, and others with all the adjustments are to much for me... long story short, I w and to update this thing the best I can for of course the least amount.. ha, don't laugh..I just want to get this truck to a another level, handling, driving, and capable of doing. for real, from the experienced crew, what should I check out ,and stay away from. And show pics of your set up if ya don't care. Thanks. Oh, and I feel the major rake has Got to go..

I have a BDS 2 inch on my Brute it rides pretty good. I am changing out the shocks from what came with it to the Fox tuned shocks for the BDS spring rate. The Fox or King adjustables are really nice. I have had a few TJ’s last one was the AEV Hemi TJ I sold Ben which is now a Brute. I did the Metal Cloak long arm upgrade to the Rubicon Express long arm Kit it had. In my opinion the Metal Cloak parts were some of the best I have ever used. I would look into a short arm kit from them with Fox adjustable shocks. I have ran OME and the quality was always great. In my opinion they have a stiffer ride. My last TJ I personally built had a first generation Teraflex long arm kit and BDS springs and OME shocks. It performed and rode great on and offroad. If you plan on going over 3 inches of lift I highly recommend relocating the rear spring cups/perches on the frame. Also, if you plan on adding any additional weight to the Brute that will play a factor in spring choices. Fell free to PM me and I will give you my contact information. I could write about this stuff for days. Stay away from Ruff County and any off brand parts.

Good to hear, I've been looking at the teraflex all day, I've seen where a lot of guys are using the Metal Cloak as well. I was kind of thinking I might need to piece something together too.. Definitely want to change all the control arms, but don't think I need to go with a long arm.. would it be better to have adjustable short arm? Or do they create a weak link? Which style of the fox are you considering? Thanks for feed back, this is what I was hoping to hear. Really, thank you

I would go adjustable to get it dialed in perfect and also that allows you to adjust the pinion angle easily. With a Brute as nice as yours I highly doubt you will be bouncing it off rocks or jumping it. You will have no issues with a quality adjustable control arm. Stay away from adjustable arms with a heim-joint end just personal opinion there. They generally wear out faster and need regular cleaning. I am running the BDS tuned IFP Fox shocks. The off the shelf IFP Fox shocks have a little stiffer feel because that are tuned for multiple applications. Tire and PSI will also greatly enhance or take away from ride quality.

Well, for the 3 people who still semi watch this forum. I figured I better update my progress. All new 3" JKS springs, with the new JFlex Arms, Acos adjustable up front, JKS Track bars, Currie correct steer, rear spring relocation bracket, and Accutune Fox 2.0 remote res on all 4... Much more impressive than the Old man Emu.. it works all in correlation with each other now. Not sure it could be any better driving than it is now.4 PhotosLast edited by TBartley; 08-25-2022, 08:12 PM.

Thanks, A friend and I did alot of research, he has Nth on his Brute, and ended up going coil overs, I tried the MC, and felt they were a little soft for me.. there was some trial and error. But I can say JKS has hands down the best customer service of anyone, and I'll stand to it. OME hung up on me, others could give 2 cents... I even spoke with a guy at AEV, which more or less said , I picked the perfect set up. And I am stoked I went with what I did. It's a totally different machine.
