  • My 05 Rubi Brute build

Any input will be appreciated. I'm personally building a brute with the help of our dealerships body shop. It's a bright silver tj. Thinking of going with either Billet or a flat color. Open to lift choices and wheels. Want to do either 35's or 37's. any input would be appreciated! Click image for larger version

The new Billet color would look great and give it a modern update. Are you planning to install the highline kit as well? If so, we really like the Old Man Emu 2.5" system with 35's. Taller lift or add body lift to clear 37's. If you're not going to install a Highline Kit, you'll need a solid 3-4" lift plus a 1" body lift to fit 35's properly.

Sounds like you've got a great Jeep project for yourself.

Here is a matte finish painted Brute we built. It had Nth Degree 3" coils, Highline, and 37's.

I did order the highline kit. I'm either going with Hutchinson beadlock a or pintlers. I like this color from a Harley that we traded for Click image for larger version

That Harley matte silver could look VERY cool!

Hutchinsons are on my wish list - but maybe a few months after completing the Brute build. Very nice wheels.

If you're running the Highline kit you really don't need that much lift otherwise you'll need massive tires to fill the arches. I'm planning 3.5" MetalCloak suspension.

Good luck on the build - we made the first cut on mine on thursday - it's exciting

I vote the billet silver color. It is nice to have a Jeep painted in a Jeep factory color. Just my two cents.

I've noticed the brutes that have custom paint jobs seem hard to resell later on and I always want that option.

I don't think it's the custom paint job that's the issue... nobody is assuming that a Brute has original paint on it so it's not like that's the factor... it's just the colour choice.

Certain colours just don't appeal to the masses though... lime greens... plum purples etc etc. - these sort of colours - some people love them - but it's a smaller number. Others just don't like them at all.

Colours like a Lamborghini Orange - will look a million dollars but not everyone is as extroverted as you'd need to be to drive a bright orange or yellow brute

More traditional colours - reds, blues, DARK greens, silvers - these will have a wider appeal.

Personally, planning to do a bright candy red on the Brute - something definitely not factory but looks like maybe it could be.

In my opinion, keeping it classy is more important than keeping it a factory colour. I think as it will pretty much need a full respray no matter what, you have the perfect opportunity to choose any colour out there...

My Brute started out life as a new '05 Rubi LJ that AEV did a Hemi, 4.5" RE long arm kit, and other stuff on. It rode on 35's originally and I felt like that was a perfect look for that setup.

I sent it back to AEV after about two years and had them convert it to a Highline Brute. We then went to 37's without touching anything else lift-wise and it's *still* perfect, IMHO.

Back then, the RE lift was pretty much the best thing going, and I haven't investigated any of the newer offerings, but it sounds like there might be better ways to go *now*.

I agree with others on the color thing. "Out there" colors are harder to sell, period. Anything in the gray family should be fine. Just be careful going with something with too much "pop" in terms of clearcoat as I think that also scares away people who intend to *use* the Brute, too. Seems like the more utilitarian the look is the easier the Brutes sell, up to a point, anyway.

I made the decision this morning to go with billet for sure. Now on to the lift kit choices I have an 02 sahara with a rubicon express 3.5 short arm and want to go with something similar but more performance minded

I think the Hutchinsons are indestructible.. and gorgeous.

For all the AEV Products I love the Pintlers are not one I can say that about. On this forum alone there have been a few guys complaining about a crack at the spoke to rim joint. I don't recall any complaints about the Bridgers but just looking at the Pintlers it is obvious that transition from spoke to rim is gonna be weak.

Stick with the Hutchinsons. Besides a bullet proof reputation they look fabulous. And they are a street legal beadlock.

Actually, the Pintler cracks appear to have been a manufacturing defect. I had a set on each of my first and second TJ's with no problem (and both still going strong). I have a set of Pintler beadlocks on my Brute, no problem. I had a set on my JKUR and they were *all* showing signs of cracking when I noticed the first one. They were replaced by AEV quickly and that set is perfectly fine still. That was a 5.7L Hemi JK with probably 15k miles when the first set went bad that was on 35's and had only very mild off-roading.

Now, if you like the Hutchinsons for the looks, then by all means. But I wouldn't write off Pintlers because of the cracking...I doubt very much that AEV is selling wheels *now* that will crack like that.
