I know you guys are busy with everything but could you post up some complete details on the J8 vs JK?

    And questions....

-The D60 rear uses a c-clip design? Is there a way to upgrade the locker to something like an ARB?

-Can the electronic disconnect sway bar be retrofitted?

-I take it all the JK suspension stuff will fit in front?

-What is the bolt patten for the wheels?

    -Are the stock wheels 17x8s?

-Will JK rear and front bumpers bolt on?

-Are the transmission cross members different from JKs. I am thinking along the lines of skid plates for the belly area....

-What are the delivery times looking like for the rolling chassis?

    Thanks guys!

Let me take a stab at it

-The D60 rear uses a c-clip design? Is there a way to upgrade the locker to something like an ARB?
There is an arb that currently fits C-Clip D60s. This axle is supposed to be a derivative of the one used in the SRT-10 trucks.

RD42 and RD43 would be the part numbers to look for for an arb

-Can the electronic disconnect sway bar be retrofitted?
-I take it all the JK suspension stuff will fit in front?
No clue, but from what I saw under the front end it seemed pretty stock. They've also confirmed that the tie rod flip should fit the knuckes.

-What is the bolt patten for the wheels?
        5 on 5.5

        -Are the stock wheels 17x8s?
They are 17, but maybe not 8

-Will JK rear and front bumpers bolt on?
Jim commented @ the offroad expo that they were tempted to throw on a set before they drove the rig down, but didn't.. So I think so

-Are the transmission cross members different from JKs. I am thinking along the lines of skid plates for the belly area....
They seem to be a bit, but from crawling under it they were skid plated to death pretty well. The only spot lacking was the oil pan for the 2.8.

I'll try to get all these questions:
          • Yes, AEV bumpers (and others) will fit. The front is pretty much the same as JK in terms of bumper fitment. The rear needs the brackets cut off the frame horns in order to fit the AEV rear bumper (we did some last minute revisions to make sure it would), some other aftermarket ones will fit with mods also, but some might not.
          • The rear is a similar differential to whats in the SRT10 Viper engined truck. The ARBs already mentioned will fit and their should actually be a new ARB part number later this summer I'm told that will also fit. The stock trac-loc is surprisingly good...yes I said that.
          • Smart Bar swaybar system can be fit.
          • The JK suspension stuff will all fit in the front.
          • Wheels are 17x8 steel wheels 5 on 5.5. Brakes are Dodge Ram.
          • Yes, the transmission crossmember is different (see pics) but not very different, I would think most aftermarket stuff will work with little to no headaches.
          • First units will probably be delivered in Sept at this point.

            Dave,

Thank you for the answers and the hard work in getting the J8 to the public.

I have always dreamed about a long wheel base diesel jeep....I think it is time to think long and hard about getting one of the J8s. I would love to build a smaller lightweight expedition camper out of it. Similar to the Earthroamer but more compact and made from much lighter materials to keep the weight down overall.

Thank you for answering my questions.

              Another detail...

What about service parts like air cleaner elements, oil filters, belts, etc?

I was able to find this picture....

It looks like a Donaldson PowerCore nanofiber filter. I have no idea on part number. Those are nice filters though...they are suppose to last like 100K under normal use.

I would like to see AEV do an adapter air intake for there hood AND have it also have the ability to use the AEV snorkel also. The same part might be able to work for both applications. Anyone have a 3d printer

You can also notice that there is ZERO room for an under hood battery. The batteries have to stay in the back.

                Another question or two.

What where the cooling system upgrades for the J8? Was there anything done for the cooling on the Automatic transmission above the norm?

Yes filter is standard, I'll get the part number. All other parts are available through AEV. I believe a standard JK CRD airbox will work if one would rather have the AEV snorkel. We'll be building a vehicle up like this soon and will report back.

                      manual option for the diesel?

I know all of the negatives about a manual transmission in this application and know your thoughts on this, but I also know that you came out with a manual option for the hemi kits. Since the CRD in Europe and Aus comes with a manual option, even if the 2.8 has been detuned, will a manual kit be offered for the j8? Honestly, it is really the only thing holding me back at this point. As far as I am concerned this is a lifetime vehicle and the perfect expedition vehicle outside of say a 70 Series LC or Nissan Patrol, but I just can't bring myself to buy a slush box.

I understand your caution on the automatic, but here are my thoughts:
                        • All military vehicles are autos, they are easier to drive and shoot or drive and be injured etc...hopefully the first one is never a concern, but the second certainly can be in the middle of nowhere.
                        • The 545 is rated to two 17000 lbs and is used in the Dodge Ram, Grand Cherokees, Commanders, Durangos, etc...Its a fantastic transmission (for an auto )
                        • I don't know what it would take to convert a J8 to a manual, but it should be pretty easy, it might not be something we would offer, but the parts are available oversees as you say, meaning it might cost some in shipping, but its not a fabrication project.
                        • I've driven the 2.8 auto and the 2.8 manual. While I do like the manual better, its not that much better that it would keep me away from the J8, not at all. For reference, we have a 1 ton Ram manual.Cummins and an auto, the auto is terrible, it feels like a completely different engine and I would never buy another auto in the Dodge again. The J8 is not like that.
                        • We did the HEMI 5.7 because its more of a "fun" engine than the diesel, and the manual is great for goofing off.

Hemi's are good for goofing off. Imagine a Mega Cab 1500 Ram (actually a rebadged 2500) hauling 2000 pounds of landscaping blocks in the bed doing 80 mph down the interstate. Rear end didn't really even squat with the weight, just leveled a bit.

                            Dave,

I appreciate your input very much. Clearly you are right, it would be much easier to drive and shoot or drive while injured and to be quite frank I had never really put it into that perspective before. I know I can try and track parts down overseas. The biggest issue would be canbus and the ecu wouldn't it?

No, the biggest issue would be pulling out all the unnecessary wiring that the 545 uses. The ECU would work fine since in this application it operates pretty much as a stand alone computer just for the engine, the trans controller won't be happy but who cares.
