  • My LJ Rubicon Build

I’ve found myself spending hours on here lately waiting for parts to pop up in the classifieds and getting lost in awesome build threads. Therefore, I figured I’d start up my own build thread and hopefully give some entertainment and/or inspiration to others. I doubt I’ll ever be able to find an actual AEV built LJR for sale, and if I do, I will have to choose between the Jeep or staying married, so my goal is to collect and put on as much AEV stuff as I can find. Starting with a 2005 LJ Rubicon. I started on this a few months back so I’ve got a few changes already, but I will update as I go.

Tracked down a set of OEM Rubicon flares that needed some love. Cleaned them up and resprayed them with SEM Trim Black. This stuff is awesome. Got the Bushwackers off and the OEM on, and got a good bath. Also had my body shop remove the original decals and install 10th Anniversary “Rubicon” Decals. Looked great in my head, but not a big fan in person. Will be switching back to the original soon.

Yea stick with the original decals. Can’t beat a Stone white LJ. ARB bumpers were used on some builds also.

I appreciate that, been trying to track these down for a while.

Picked up a Rock Crawler bumper. In pretty good shape but will eventually get stripped and coated. Also retrofitted yellow Hellas into the OEM Hella fog lamps. Scored some TJ Bridgers as well. These will end up getting a color change more than likely.

The bumper looks tough. Planning to get a winch?

Yes, as some point. Need to do some more research for fitment options. Been looking at Warn’s VR Evo line.

Finally gave up on finding TJ AEV wheels and bought some JK Savegres and spidertrax adapters. Installing the lift this weekend so should have it all buttoned up soon. Also scored some AEV sliders.

Got the front lift on today, as much as I hate having to use the spidertrax, I am in love with the Savegre wheels. Also, found out yesterday that I won the 12k VR Evo that Cross Jeep raffled off, hopefully it will fit in my rock crawler bumper!

Lift was a success other than a broken shock bolt. Very happy with the result

Finally got all the accessories to mount my Warn VR Evo 12s that I won from Cross Jeep. Fits perfectly in the rock crawler bumper.

Back to the OEM decals, working through some broken shock bolt and track bar fitment issues, but hope to be rolling soon
