  • intermediate steering issue, due to cold temperature?

I have posted this on other forums but I am having intermediate steering issues with my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with roughly 45K miles. It will be randomly hard to steer. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. The last few days have been extremely cold here in Montana. Friday it was -50 with wind chill. Could this be causing the issue? Bad pump? If bad pump any suggestions on a decent one? The only one I have found(other than stock) was 600 plus.

In extreme cold, especially if I haven't driving much, or slowly I have seen this. It is due in part to cold and more viscous steering fluid, my tires slightly flat spot and have a lower PSI, and are harder to turn as well.

The weird thing is, it is very sporadic and random. Like this morning steering was fine when I got up to go to work. Leaving work for lunch and steering will is extremely hard to turn for about 45 seconds then drove the rest of the way fine.

Do you park it in a garage over night? I think when it has been minus 15F or so mine usually takes a minute to respond normally when parked at work for 12 hours but when parked at home in garage it is fine.

You could change your power steering hydro fluid.
