  • JL compatibility....

Just wondering, since you guys work closely with FCA, if you know if your current bumpers for the JK will fit on the JL? It *looks* like they didn't change much but that can be deceiving. Thanks for any insight you can share.

I am sure there are more changes than meet the eye. Moving bolt holes by a few millimeters would require a whole different part. Until the production models are out it will be hard to know what (if any items) are compatible. The Jeep JK parts were delayed due to changes from the CAD drawings to the production models requiring AEV to redesign and retool for some items.

I believe I read in the last day or two that the FCA has said that said a lot of the accessories used on the JK will fit the JL.

Contrary to popular belief, we do not work closely with FCA.

I mean, you supplied OEM parts for them, so I figured you'd have more info that most on things, but I stand corrected.

Just looking at the JL pics. I can tell you most of the parts will not fit. In the bumper and armor department, the parts don't fit from a visual standpoint. They will need to follow the contour of the JL a lot more. Suspension will also need tweaking. If it was anything like the JK development, JL parts will be a while before we see them. If I remember correctly, AEV had them crash tested and perform other testing to meet OEM standards. But i'm really hoping they will come-out with something that makes FCA rethinks the possibilities yet again! Dave and his team have indeed changed the industry many times. And I won't be shocked if they did it again.

Always excited to see what they come up with next. That Chevy project was amazing and personally, I wish they looked at Land Cruiser from a global market point of view.

There were a number of articles showing that Mopar had 200+ accessory parts already produced for the JL at SEMA last week. My guess is if they changed the vehicle just enough so that the old aftermarket parts don't fit and by the time they release the JL they already have 200+ parts in the que that they are trying to get a jump on the aftermarket manufacturers. Could that be why AEV is working on the Colorado? Possibly they see more aftermarket opportunities there than with the JL as that aftermarket was flooded before Mopar got involved.
              Just thinking out loud.

AEV had a lot of inside contacts prior to Fiat owning Jeep, but has since that time hired most of their contacts (Dave Yegge, Jim Frens and others) during the transition to Fiat and the expansion of AEV about 10 years ago.

There were also a lot of issues between the early JK and the full production JK when AEV was at SEMA 2006 leading to delays. It wouldn't surprise me with the cost of stamping steel bumpers if AEV waits until all the small production changes are worked out on the Jeep assembly line since it is expensive and time consuming to change the stamped steel parts.

Ok, so the guy was wrong about you working with FCA....but does that mean no answers to his question will be given? Are you going to do anything with the JL at all?
