  • New From AEV - Second Generation JK Snorkel

AEV is proud to announce the release of the second generation JK Snorkel. This redesigned Snorkel is now available for all 2007+ JK models, including 2012+ JK Wrangler's equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine. The second generation JK Snorkel features a significantly larger 4" air inlet tube diameter for increased air flow to satisfy the requirements of the 3.6L Pentastar V6, 3.8L V6 and 2.8L CRD diesel engines as well as the 6.4L HEMI and 5.7L HEMI V8 engines when used in conjunction with the AEV HEMI Airbox Kit. The shape of the air intake tube on the JK Snorkel has also been redesigned to compliment the contours of the JK's body.

The AEV JK Snorkel now comes standard with an Air Ram inlet, which is designed to draw in fresh air and separate rain water from the air charge. It is incredibly rugged and well suited for wooded terrain where impacts with trees and branches are likely.

For vehicles that are exposed to dry, desert terrain where heavy dust is likely, an all-new self-cleaning Pre-Filter Assembly is available as an optional accessory. Our Pre-Filter Assembly is used in both heavy duty military and commercial vehicles worldwide because of its rugged construction and extremely long service life. The maintenance-free, self-cleaning design separates dirt and debris from the air charge and ejects the debris out of the Pre-Filter Assembly as the vehicle travels down the road.

Installation requires only minor modifications to the stock JK hood or it fits perfectly with AEV's Heat Reduction Hood with no cutting necessary.

    Key Features:

    -Now available for 2012+ 3.6L Pentastar V6.
-Compatible with AEV HEMI V8 applications when used in conjunction with the AEV HEMI Airbox Kit.
    -Cross-link polyethylene construction.
-Huge 4" air inlet allows for increased air flow over the previous generation AEV Snorkel.
-Installs directly into the stock JK air box inlet without modification.
-Exact fit to the JK body contours.
-Attaches to JK body utilizing all factory bolt holes.
-Optional self cleaning Pre-Filter sold separately.

I love that the new pre-filter assembly is all black! I wasn't a fan of the oil lamp look of the original

I thought I read a post where AEV Dave says the water trickles down to the bottom of the air box where it evaporates.

UPDATE: Received my snorkel late this afternoon. Got home early this evening and started the install. Had a minor hiccup with one of the bolts that hold the Airaid intake box in place not wanting to come out. Finally got it out. Got the AEV snorkel installed into the Airaid intake box and installed the snorkel and box. Then, I realized a PROBLEM. The large conical air filter that comes with the Airaid intake would not clear the portion of the snorkel that comes into the intake box.

          I had two choices...
1-Remove the Airaid intake and reinstall the OEM intake.
          OR
2-Remove what I had just installed, modify (cut) the AEV snorkel for clearance and reinstall.

          I chose the latter.

I cut off about 2.75" off the snorkel where it connects with the intake box and reconnected it. I had to drill out the 2 required 5/32" rivets that AEV supplies to hold them together and clean off the silicone I had applied to seal the two together.

Now, I'm about to eat some leftover pizza and make a run (in my wife's vehicle) to either Meijer or Walmart for some more 5/32" rivets and more silicone. Then, I'll finish up the install.

Only other things worth mentioning, since I have the Poison Spyder mount for my 50" Rigid, one of the two bolts on the A-Pillar are not long enough to go through the snorkel bracket and the light bar mount. I have to use a longer bolt. I'll change both out so they match.

I'll update further (with pics) later (late, lol) this evening.

What size opening is there on the TJ. I think that the new pre-filter needs a 3" diameter opening.

I would love to know if anyone has installed the Gen 2 snorkel with a Gobi roof rack. The pre-filter (from the pictures) looks like it would hit the rack. The Gen 2 looks like it hugs the A-pillar closer too. The "exact fit to the JK body contours" has me a little concerned it won’t work with my rack without pulling out the hacksaw and firing up the welder to make some modifications.

It looks like the top of the intake sits higher than the hardtop.

Can someone please take a look at overall how much taller it makes the Jeep?

                    Thanks,
                    -Dan

The Safari size opening is about 2-15/16". The previous AEV Ram inlet fits right.

Don 't know what about the new Ram/Pre-filter as the diameter now seems bigger (4"?).

The new opening is bigger. I know Dave mentioned the new size and it was either 3 or 4 inches. If the old one was 3 then this one is 4".

I believe Dave said 4" so it meets currently available commercial filter products (i.e. big rigs?)

                              Question for AEV:

There were special instructions sent out with the original snorkel to make it possible to have interchangeable intakes. The new pre-filter is superior to both the old filter tops (ram-air and pre-filter), as it does a better job than the 1st gen pre-filter and is as tough as the ram-air. Might there be either a yet-to-be-released connection module to mate the new pre-filter to the 1st gen snorkel, or are there similar special DIY instructions that might include getting a muffle shop to make us a properly fluted intermediate piece to mate the new pre-filter on the 1st gen snorkel?
